Captain(s) Log: February 2022

February:  We were up early to continue our trek towards Mozam and managed to get to the border just before 12.  Super easy border crossing at Kosi Bay.  A quick afternoon swim (the beaches have a 4pm curfew) in the lovely warm and crystal-clear sea rounded off a great day!!!

February:  Another great day.  Spent morning on beach, super crystal-clear water and 27 DegC so lovely and warm.  In general, the waves didn’t look good but eventually decided to just paddle out and get some practice, turned out to be one of my better sessions.

February: back in Tofo for a little bit, apart from the town being quieter not much else has changed. Water is crystal clear and lovely and warm.

February: a cyclone is developing up in the Mozambique Madagascar channel, at the moment it looks like it should stay offshore so holding thumbs for that.

February:  Tania birthday and possibly the greatest present of all, the news that there is a RORO scheduled for March and they have space for us. Looks like we won’t be staying in Moz as long as we thought.

February: it’s been a great 10 days in Tofo but equally excited (and nervous) to be heading back to ZA in order to get ready for shipping. Have decided to haul A back and rather get back early and have time on our hands than rushing madly for our first shipment. As it is we have lots to do!

February: Back in ZA, it’s been two very long and hot days but all went smooth. Super lucky to get “upgraded” today when we pulled into Hluhluwe bushcamp as they offered to upgrade us to a glamping tent (we are the only peeps here) for some cost as camping.

February: started on the admin jobs and cleaning Mr Jones on the inside

February: Despair as Stuart went to do oil change and found oil all down side of engine block. All the worst-case scenarios of what could be wrong going through our minds. Not what we need with only days to go until he is due to be shipped!

February: Despite yesterdays oil leak discovery we are pushing ahead with preparing Mr J for shipment, choosing to be optimistic until we know different…..

February: Spent the morning with a mechanic, looks like it could be the turbo inlet and exhaust manifold gasket. Bought one and going to get it changed tomorrow. Feeling very relieved.  Just to be in safe side have also bought a full head gasket set for just in case,  when we in South America.

February: It’s been a very productive week and have ticked off many to-do’s so can take foot off the gas a little and not work all day every day.

February: Mr Jones is packed, quite a relief to know that all that scheming 5 years ago with regards rooftop box sizes and how we would dismantle and pack Mr J was correct. Everything fits like a glove. Now we sit and wait for customs and other process to play out.

February: Annoyance and frustration when we receive the final shipping estimate and it’s been loaded with quite a few extra charges despite us asking 1,5 months ago if there were any extra charges we should prepare for.  Now to argue while still playing nicely.
