Below you will find some practical information regarding our experiences in travelling through South America. The information relates to some of the day to day challenges you face while overlanding such as obtaining cellphone cards for each country, border crossing complexities, insurances required, etc
Vehicle Insurance
3rd party insurance is a mandatory requirement. For all the mercosur countries it is possible to obtain one policy which covers you in all countries. We obtained ours via our shipping agent in Monte Video which was valid for 1 year and cost USD500.
As far as we are aware it is not possible to obtain any form of comprehensive insurance for a foreign vehicle in any of the countries.
Country Specific information
Argentina: a short list of useful information (sim cards, blue dollar mechanism, etc)

Chile: (Border crossings & profited items; Local SIM cards and very NB – compulsory registration
